Volunteers

The Foundation is fortunate to be supported by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of volunteer Docents and Master Gardeners. Volunteers provide a valuable service on behalf of the Drumthwacket Foundation and serve as a cornerstone of its educational programs.

The Foundation’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic Docents lead the school and public tours and help at the Foundation’s special events, including the annual Spring Carnival for Children with Special Needs and December Holiday Open Houses.

The Master Gardeners work closely with the Rutgers Center for Urban and Environmental Sustainability (CUES) to evaluate, revise, and execute the Master Plan for the Drumthwacket Gardens. Recent activities include the installation of two rain gardens to address runoff, the removal of invasives from shrub borders, and the design of a compost site to recycle green waste. Using their training and research skills, the Master Gardeners are also responsible for all the beds, borders, and arrangements in the ornamental urns.  Interested Master Gardeners may also serve as Docents by giving garden tours on most Wednesdays to school children and the public.
